The newly-opened Busboys and Poets restaurant in Takoma DC hosted this year’s JazzBrawl. Three local jazz groups competed Sunday evening, Feb. 22 for a showcase set at the annual Takoma Park JazzFest June 14, 2015. The group Brûlée edged out The Nicole Saphos Trio, and The Matthew Gillich Quartet. Event MC Bruce Krohmer said the judge’s vote was close, each group had something unique to offer.

JazzBrawl is a fund-raising event as well as a competition. An audience of all ages, roughly 60 people, filled the Busboys and Poets event room.
